i bought it from the apple store a few weeks ago, and noticed my max memory is missing 1.5g, and the memory used is counting the apps and "other"
what should i do?
i know its normal for ipods and other memory devices to fall a little short on the said memory, but 1.5gigs off?
i plan on filling it up as much as i can, so those extra gigs are valuable.
Update:itunes says max capacity is 14.52 gigs.
this is not a problem with the "other" memory, that only takes up about 200mb.

That 1.5 GB is used for the Operating System and any needed Software to run on iPhone/iTouch Device.
My iPhone 3G is the Same! :)
cuz the itouch is run by an operating system based off of one used to run a cumputer, its requires that many gigs to be on the itouch. the reason other ipods dont have as many gigs used up is because they are run off of simpler operating systems. so basically a more advanced operating system would take up more gigs than one that is less advanced.. its not rocket science.
They are taken by system files and preinstalled applications.
Also, remember that 1GB is in fact 1024 MB, not 1000. This it to make counting easier but 32 GB is in fact a bit less MB than 32000
Like the first answer said, that is where Apple puts the OS and part of that is taken up for formatting. With EVERY device you get it will never match the box's GB's.
1.5 is for the system running in your ipod..
i have the same
It's normal. That exactly what mine did.
