I'm trying to scale an edge and it doesn't scale out instead it merges random vertices, same as when I try and use the more tool on the same edge up or down it merges both vertices on either end of the edge to other vertices.
I hope my typing is coherent to whoever reads this, I need help asap.

Look under Edit Geometry/constraints and make sure 'none' and not 'edges' is selected. It sounds like you might have edges selected and they are scaling into the next vertices.
the only reason why it merges is because you have chosen the weld tool this will weld two vertices on top of reason otherwise it should not weld the two. i am not sure what you're doing wrong. if you're trying to scale the edges you need to be in the edges on the edit poly you cannot scale the edges in the vertices
also if you have the snaps on then this mite will the vertices to snap together. so turn it off
once you select an edge then you should able to scale it. with no problems there are different scales tools there's the uniform that is the first one, with the square on the bottom in LT
if you click and hold the scale tool you'll get two more one with two tangles this is the non-uniform scale and the third one is the scale and squash
hopefully this help
