I have a 92 Thunderbird and cannot get the headlights to work. The brights work if I hold onto the switch. I have tried replacing the switch and the fuse and nothing has worked.
If you want to fix this yourself, you really should buy yourself a 12-volt test light. About $10 at any Auto Parts store.
Hold down "Ctrl" on your keyboard, then click this link to open it in another tab. Scroll down to; " 1987-96 Aerodynamic Headlamps-BULB ASSEMBLY " for tips on removing the sockets and bulbs from the housing, and removing the bulbs, at the appropriate time.
Attach the alligator clip of the test light to the Negative Battery terminal, or a metal part of the car. Touch the pointy end to the Battery Positive terminal to test it, and make sure you have a good ground. It should light. Turn your main headlight switch on, and leave your dimmer switch in any position where the lights don't work. Pull the Headlight socket and bulb out, and pull out the bulb. You should use a clean cloth so you don't get skin oils on it. Probe each metal contact in the socket at each headlight with the pointy end of the test light.
If the test light lights up on one contact for each headlight, your switches are fine. Replace the headlights.
If you get any other result, e-mail me the results of what you found.
It sounds to me like the low beam bulbs have burned out. If you are holding the switch toward the steering wheel, you are using the "Brights-to-pass" function. If you push the switch toward the dashboard, the brights should work as well. If they do, then replace the headlight bulbs.

I'd replace the multi function switch with a new one, not a used one and your problem will be fixed, get it from Ford.
