guys i need help, im trying to learn to fix diesels am new to them im a gas engine mechanic. anyways got called to a job a 97 ford f350 with the 7.3l diesel just died while on the freeway and hasn't started since. i changed fuel filter it was disgusting and the diesel fuel in the bowl was really really dirty, i bought sea foam and new diesel fuel and poured it directly into the bowl with new filter. i tried starting and notthing at all.
it doesn't even try, a friend said pour gas over a rag and stuff it in air filter so i did and it cranked right up and revved to 1400rpms and sounded like crap and then died, it will start with gas everytime but then just die. i bled the fuel rail also. i found out their was a recall for the cam position sensor but i called and the vin i gave them was good for the cam sensor.
what could be my problem guys?
thanks.

Doesn't sound anything like a cps, not a common problem on the OBS trucks as compared to te 99-03 models. Could be a fuse....quit doing the gas rag trick. Thats only for when you know its getting fuel inside the pistons. Dry firing is not good. Need to check out the head gasket. My 96 F250 acted just like that. Took me 4hrs to get it started one day and it ran like crap...couldnt get it over 30mph. Turned out to be a blown head gasket and burnt wiring harness. Chck the IDM connections and the connections at the injectors.
Check two big green fuses on the fuse box located on top of engine module on the driver's site under the hood.Does are not regular fuses.I have a truck like that one.
How did you establish it has gasoline? Did you losen the line to the gasoline rail? attempt a shot of the two into the intake tube, not plenty basically a 2d or so blast. If it fires you have not have been given gasoline.
could be fuelpressure, air in the fuel lines if it runs off of a starting aid like starting fluid/either or in your case gasoline wich i dont recomend more than likely you have a problem in the fuel system
