I live in Georgia, and when i was in high school graduated in 2010.I wore a dixie outfitter shirt to school with a raccoon on it because I coon hunted a bunch! i had a teacher who was black and she made me take it off "cause it had bullets on it." and we all knew that was a lie. Im far from racist and i don't wear any shirts that offend people!! My autistic brother in-law loves construction equipment, and we bought him a dixie outfitter shirt that had nothing but construction equipment on the back. Yes it had the rebel flag on the front as most. His teacher had him take it off and put a different shirt on and sent a letter home. This was just last school year. I remember the controversy a couple years ago about the shirts, but when i told my dad about me getting in trouble with my shirt he told me to go back to school and tell her that rule/law was never passed and if she needs to talk about it she can call him. Anyway, when my brother in law came home with the letter in his bag it made me very very angry and told his mom that law was never passed but she didn't want to send him to school and get him in trouble, because his teacher said he wasn't allowed to wear it. I was wondering if their is a rule/law that says your not allowed to wear a dixie outfitter shirt to georgia public school? If so where can I find this law/rule online that says it is or it was never passed?

I think since Columbine, schools are more vigilant about squelching anything -- including clothing --that could promote violence, hatred, etc. While you wore the shirt innocently, the bullet may have indeed been the reason the teacher asked you to change. Nonetheless, the rebel flag is negative to many. I think all of us need to be sensitive to the feelings of others in our community.
You could make an issue of it ... but is it really worth it? Even if you win, you know the symbol is probably offensive to your former teacher (and many others.)
I excerpted part of the code for Cobb County. I don't know how things are in your county, but it appears that the principal and school administrators can really set the standard, since there's a lot open to interpretation.
Administrators and teachers shall enforce the dress code Rule, and the principal or
designee shall be the final judge as to the appropriateness, neatness and cleanliness of
the wearing apparel, or whether or not apparel is disruptive, unsafe, or in violation of
the dress code.
My guess - and it is only a guess- is that it is not the brand but the confederate flag. To find out for sure whether it is against the law or Ga dept o ed rules to wear such a shirt contact John Barge the state superintendent of schools at state.superintendent@ doe.k12.ga.us. Your specific school district may have a rule of its own on that to ind that out call the board o education and talk to the local superintendent of schools,
