I have a one year old miniature australian shepherd and it's getting hot so i want to get her hair cut. I went to pet smart and they wouldn't cut her hair, just trim the butt feathers. Is it bad for there fur to cut it short, and if so what kind of cut should i give her? Thank you!!

Ok hear it is..
your dogs double coat is very important for the reasons stated by other posters so I will focus on what happens IF you shave the dog. First it ruins the coat! Your dogs hair will grow back very corse. Secondly it might not grow back at all!! Shedding is also more severe. I would to a shedding treatment..it will remove alot of dead undercoat and the dog will feel great!
It is your choice ultimately. In the event you think your dog is a ways extra relaxed with a shave down, by all approach go for it. Sure, the lengthy hair, if it is brushed good with undercoat gone, helps to guard them from heat, as good. One factor you need to do not forget is we mostly have puppies for pets that weren't intended to reside the place we reside. Which means, even as that hair does have a rationale the Aussie used to be no longer intended to reside in 100 degree weather both. Identical to we put little coats on IG's and Chih's during a ND winter...You can also consider it integral to shave down your Aussie for an Arizona summer. When you come to a decision to depart him in full coat be certain he's brushed well. Additionally, he would benefit greatly to have his tummy and interior thighs shaved down. Provide him with a wading pool in order that he can get moist to cool down or have tons of water. Of course, a good shaded field is fundamental. Should you shave him down sunburn can turn out to be an drawback so so one can must be watched. Considering this breed shouldn't be supposed to be shaved the hair can develop again another way. Which means softer and fuzzier. Should you do not mind it is no large deal. Hope I helped
No double coated dog should be coat short.
Her long coat provides both insulation to keep her cool in the summer as well as protection from the sun.
Petsmart was right to refuse the cut.
Double coated breeds should never be shaved or cut short
Yes it is bad because its what protects them from the heat
