i know how australian shepherds shed a lot, but is there a way to reduce it?
i've heard of a furminator grooming tool and if i brush an aussie with that tool every day, do you think i would see less and less of mountains of hair in my house? little enough that one vacuming per week would do it? little enough that not a lot of people would see hair everywhere?
Update:and with the furminator tool, do i need all the other tools like the slicker brush and stuff?

You don't need any special tools, gadgets or furinators to groom an Aussie - Use a Wire brush and brush them daily, or every other day. It will greatly reduce the amount of loose hair.
HA!!! Welcome to my world!
Yes, you should have a big slicker brush, and yes, as the groomer said, the Furminator will chop their coat up.
The best way to get the fuzzy undercoat out is to get a Matbreaker tool - it will take the fuzz out without chopping the beautiful guard hairs. Lay the hair up against the grain, and them brush with the slicker and the mattbreaker at the base of the fur to get the fuzzies out - you'll have to work on a section at a time, butonce you get it done, you should be good to go for a while.
I use an empty Kleenex box - the one with the slit in the top - to stuff with the gobs of removed hair. It goes in, but doesn't pop back out at you the way it does when you use a bag.
You can also use an industrial squeegee from Home Depot to get the fur off the rugs - just a couple minutes, and it scrapes right off.
As for getting them not to shed, there are food additives, mostly oil, tat are supposed to help. A good diet will improve the coat and skin, but so many Aussies are bred for the show ring these days - we call them the Happy Hair Dogs - that I think we're stuck with all this insulation!
On the other hand, you can always find someone who spins yarn...
Hello, Yes the Aussie are a high shedding breed of dog. Tools like an undercoat rake and shed n blade along with a slicker brush will help reduce that undercoat that is coming out. The furminator is a tool that I would not recommend because this tool is a 40 blade on a handle and it will cut your dogs coat, 40 blade is a surgical blade used by vets to shave pets before surgery, groomers also use this blade to change the coat texture on some breeds of dogs. Because it cuts it make a great stripping knife. So because you have a breed of dog with a double coat I would not use that tool. The undercoat rake will help allot with all that extra undercoat that your dog is shedding.

don't know much about that kind of dog or the tool you are using. i have a husky Shepard border collie mix. very hairy and sheds a lot even when i comb him out. you may be able to reduce the shedding but you will never never stop it.
Feeding really good dog food helps a bunch. I haven't heard of this tool, but brushing does help alot. I also vacuum my dog sometimes:)
Just brush their fur a few times a day. It will greatly reduce the amount of fur they drop
