I made a job application and they asked if i had ever been convicted of a felony so i put no cuz that was the truth. I have only been convicted about a misdemeanor assault. But i only answered the question they asked. When they checked my background it came up n as a misdemeasor so i didnt get hired.. Its not fair if i answered correctly. Are they right of not hiring me?

It's possible that they didn't like the assault part, whether it was felony or misdemeanor. It's also possible that they had another applicant who was very similar to you, but who had no convictions at all.
They are not obliged to hire you, especially if they have another candidate who is a better fit. If you have an assault conviction on your record, then you will find it much harder to land a job. Someone who has committed assault once is much more likely to assault in the future. Very few employers want to hire someone who is known to have assaulted someone. Actions have consequences.
