Part of my bassoon seems to have bent.
I have bassoon lessons tomorrow, but it's nagging at me. I don't know anything about the bassoon, only having played for the upwards of 4 months. I was originally a saxophonist, but this is beyond me.
Is this a quick fix or is this a serious problem? It doesn't seem to be seriously bent, but the whisper key is only partially responsive...

What it's supposed to look like, for comparison:

Please only answer if you play bassoon. Thanks.

Any woodwind repair shop should be able to fix this fairly quickly. Don't attempt to do this yourself, as these rods can snap easily.
It's not a serious problem yet. But your bassoon teacher should have gone over the right way to assemble the instrument so that you don't bend the key work, both by the way you hold the body and opening the key at the bocal when you assemble and disassemble the instrument.
... and no, I don't play bassoon ... just have seen a lot of wind instruments with bent key work. (mostly clarinets)
it looks like its an easy fix but i would just ask your lesson teacher! you may never know your teacher may have the tools to fix it!
