A friend wants me to jump start her car. Once is okay. but now she is asking every other day....and she says her alternator is bad. Is it true that I can damage my car for jumping other peoples cars ???
at the moment of boost, her starting system pulls a lot of current from your charging system, which includes your alternator. If her battery is weak enough, your battery and alternator has to help her weak battery start this vehicle and your alternator could be loaded to a point of damage.
When boosting ,allow your car to run for a few moments to deliver a small amount of enegy to her battery and if possible turn your vehicle off while she hits the switch. If she doesn't start and her battery is not 'very' weak you may want to let the car run longer with cables attached.
I've been a mechanic 41 years and i don't heed my own answer, but you did ask, I HOOK AND BOOST!!
Tell her to buy a portable jump pack. Oh wait, since she's going to the auto parts store to get that, she may as well have them check her battery and alternator for free. If her alternator was bad, jump starting it would not have helped after the first time. The battery would be so dead that as soon as you remove the jumper cables, her engine would cut off.
No, but she should be responsible enough to go to an auto parts store, and find out if her alternator is really bad, or if its her battery. Just tell her the truth. That you just don't want to continue in the pattern she has put you in
Is it her car that needs a jump or ..............are you missing something here????? Seriously, if the jump leads short on your cars bodywork it will damage it.

not will not hurt your battery in any way
If you are worried about your battery going flat leave your engine running when you jump hers
if its getting to much tell her a jump for a jump that might make it worthwhile
