Hi,
I Have a female 3 years old Shih Tzu and im planning on getting a Beagle. Im wondering if it is a good Idea, if the beagle would be a good companion, or if it is a good idea to have both dogs inside an apartment.
Update:EDIT V2**** Some times they might be alone from 8 to 12 HR

It depends totally on whether you plan on leaving these two alone in the apartment, and for how long. Beagles are NOISY and can be destructive if left alone - even with a canine companion. We had 2 Bassets at first, before it all kicked off (LOL) and I know that if we ever went out, the first would sit and wait, while the other got involved in mass destruction. We taped/vid. what went on. Happily we weren't in an apartment at the time, and I wasn't working so we weren't out much, or for long. But it still happened.
I think that as the Beagle especially is a hunting dog, and needs space, if not actually involved in hunting, it would be far better to wait until you maybe have a house with a garden before getting a breed like the Beagle.
Beagle Shih Tzu
I think you should wait until Oli is fully potty trained and house trained. To get another dog that would be a mistake he is not fully trained bring another dog who is not / partially trained you have a disaster waiting to happen. Wait to get another dog for another year or so spoil the one you have. If you decide to get another dog I would get a female another male you will have dominance issues females tend to be more submissive and they would make great companions. I would get another shih tzu from what I know they get along great with their own kind. Believe me I have 4 2 male and 2 female and 1 yorkie she is fine with them.
beagles are not the best choice for an apartment in my opinion
they are active dogs for one.. can you provide enough exercize?
they are loud.. I know if I lived in an apartment I would not be happy if I had to listen to that god-awful baying noise coming from my neighbors. Do you feel confident you can TRAIN the dog to be quiet? They are awfully stubborn.
If you live in a apartment building i would rethink getting a beagle they love to bark.
Beagles can be LOUD dogs. I'd be nervous about neighbors calling your landlord or animal control with complaints.
