I have a HP Pavilion a000 with Phoenix BIOS (it has a code on it that either says D886 or D888 or D686, very hard to read!)
It makes a long beep on start-up, long pause, long beep, long pause, long beep and so on and so forth, and doesn't stop.
What does this beep code mean? I can't find out anywhere!

my computer has Award BIOS and when I got a long beep at startup it meant a loose power supply connection to the hard disk--sure enough when i replaced the short jumper power supply cable to the hard disk with a new one the beep went away. They dont make gold plated connectors any more---so these power supply connectors can give trouble.
to this point as i think of, there's a concern on your RAM. verify no rely if that is wisely linked, attempt re-putting it, and verify if it works. i've got experienced this concern myself. So, 'LIKE' if my answer develop into effectual. thank you :)
