I'm thinking of getting a Blu-ray player. Now here is my delema. I currently have just a standard DVD player with mostly burned DVD's and I'm using a 50 inch Samsung TV that is only 720p. If I get a Blu-ray player, would the quality of my existing DVD's improve as they are playing on a Blu-Ray player, given that my T.V. is 720p, and if not, can someone tell me what to look for? Thanks

Blu-ray will be a huge step up. The big plus point of blu-ray players is that they play standard DVDs and upscale them through a lead called HDMI. I bet on a 50" normal tv will look a little blocky. Remember this:
The bigger the TV, the more you need HD!
Blurays will downscale to 720p on your TV so that is no problem. Enjoy!
BTW, if you're looking to buy one i very highly recommend the SONY BDPS370 if it is available in your country. In the UK it has a 5 star (max) from What Hi-Fi? sound and Vision magazine and I have one myself hooked up to a panasonic 32" LCD
LASEY PUGET: Like i said before, the larger the TV the more you need and notice HD. Most Blurays have a good upscaler so some regular DVDs look damn good on there. If however you have the same movie on DVD and Blu-ray and have a bluray connected via HDMI and a DVD connected to the same TV via RGB Scart, you'd definitly notice the difference. Hope this helps ;)
We have a Blu-Ray player that plugs into my iMac (27" 1080p) and honestly I can't really tell the difference between the Blu-Ray and the regular DVDs. We just got another 32" 1080p tv and I don't see the difference on it either. I guess you have to have a bigger screen to notice the difference?
