There were two kittens that I found at different times. Once a neighbor found some kittens behind her house that seemed to be abandoned and she needed to get rid of them. I took one of them and it was only a couple weeks old. The kitten was too small to suck. I found a medicine dropper and for the first few weeks I would drop milk right into her mouth... Cow's milk. She was just fine with that and continued on Cow's milk for many months. After those first few weeks of the medicine dropper, I found the tiniest premie nipple I could and she began to drink a bottle. Then by about 8 weeks she learned to drink the milk from a bowl. She was fine with the cow's milk as her main source of nutrition in the beginning.
Noway near nutritious enough. You will have to get something at the pet store called KMR (Kitten Milk replacement). It is formula for kittens in a can. They can't do cow's milk!!!
If it is an emergency and you need something to get you through until you can get the KMR in the morning, mix an egg yolk with one cup of milk and two teaspoons white karo syrup. Give it warm in the bottle.
And remember, if this is a situation where mama can't take care of them, infant kittens CANNOT relieve their bowels/bladders on their own and can die a horribly painful death if you don't help stimulate it by stroking their tummies with a wash cloth to help them. This is extremely important. Do this at least once every hour or two. At least! Cannot stress HOW IMPORTANT THAT is. If it isn't done, you'll lose them.
Also remember they cannot handle bright lights/ sunlight right now.
You do know the babies have to be bottle fed with a bottle from the pet store for this purpose, they cannot lap and won't be able to for another 4 or 5 weeks at least.
Call a local vet in the morning and get further instructions if the mama is unable to care for them. It is extremely important that you do this!!!
when my cat had kittens she didn't produce any milk. I went to the feeder supply/petsmart right away and they have formula especially made for little kitty's and puppies. Feed them with a small bottle at first, after a few weeks put the formula in a dish on the floor, then wean them to dry food after that. Good luck.
No, kittens can never drink regular milk. Only maternal milk or specialized kitten milk. Never give milk to a cat, it can cause horrible gastro-intestinal problems, as well as death to a kitten.
