I have a job with insurance however they take out $300 a month out of my check for insurance for a dependent and i need that money to pay bills. My baby is due in March '09 and my father is retired military with great insurance benefits, is it possible that i can put my baby under his insurance?
Update:thanks, i figured he would have to be legal guardian.

Nope. You can shop around to see if you can buy individual insurance for less or apply for state aid.
I found that individual is often less than a group plan for someone young and healthy which hopefully a baby would be.
I don't think there is anyway for your baby to be covered under a grandparent's medical insurance unless the baby was his dependent. It would be easy enough for your dad to call his insurance company to find out. Unfortunately, insurance benefits are very pricey and more and more companies are requiring employees to cover a portion of the premium costs. You can check into your own state's available insurance coverage. Many offer reasonably priced health insurance programs for uninsured children. Some depend on the parent's income, but others are offered just based on need alone. Do a search for state run health insurance for children using the name of your state. I live in Michigan and we have a program called MIChild which is insurance for children of working families.
The baby is not his dependent, so the baby cannot be claimed as one on his insurance. He'd have to become the legal guardian to do that. This is just one of the expenses that comes with having a child. You can search around for cheaper insurance or you could also check into state assistance to see if you qualify for any help.
No he can't.
However, I'm sure your state has insurance that you can put baby on. It's ran by the government. Here in Tennesse we have TennCare. You just have to contact your department of human services. Just explain your insurance cost too much. A lot of parents choose this route because insurance is too expensive.
many factors here to consider. you can use the system in your favor and have your parents be the legal guardians of your baby....or if you are a minor and live with your parents it should automatically cover you....but I doubt that is the case....if you have a bit more information, especially about the "for insurance for a dependent"...what does that mean?
Only if you are under 18. My sister and her daughter got to stay on my parents until she turned 18.
Only if he is the legal guardian.
Nope, your baby unless you sign over custody.
unfortunately not, sorry maybe you could add him to your insurance and then see if you can get help once he gets here. good luck
Not unless you give up legal guardianship to him.
