My husband had a stroke christmas morning. He's 54. He had a stroke on the left side of his brain. He can't move his right arm. He has started speaking a little. He can eat. Yesterday he got up out of bed on his own, even though he wasn't supposed to. I need to hear of some miracles. Right now I'm very devastated and I need hope. Thank you.

I also had an ischemic stroke in September and it was crytogenic which means they dont know what caused it. This is due to the fact that I am 24 years old and had no risk factors aside from my smoking habit. My speech and cognition were affected as a result of my stroke. Most of the recovery does happen within the first 3 months so if he is able to walk and speak a little now, im sure he will make a great recovery. I couldn't speak when I was admitted to the hospital but after the first day I could say some words. I now am able to speak fully without studdering or using the wrong word. The main problem that I still face is that I cognition issues. My thoughts dont come to me as quickly as they did before. I went to speech therapy and now I am attending cognitive therapy. I definitely recommend this for your husband as studies show that people that attend therapy early fare better that those that dont. I also have felt depressed recently because I haven't made the full recovery that I wanted yet. I try to remind myself that the key is patience and with hard work and dedication I can do it. I have made a functional recovery because I have been able to return to work and everyone that I encounter would never know that I had a stroke because I dont show any signs. A functional recovery is not enough for me and I intend on making a complete recovery. I have read alot on strokes and found out that even though the most spontanious recovery happens in the first three months, recovery can last up to a year out. I also recommend your husband do brain games. I hope this helps.

Can you fully recover from an ischemic stroke?

Anything is possible!! Keep praying. My mother-in-law also has a stroke Oct 15 of this year, she goes to therapy 3 times a week but is able to walk with a hemi-walker, uses a brace on her left leg to help with stability. She still can't use her left arm but practically does everything on her own. Her speach is back to normal and she is good spirits. I am an EMT (emergency medical technician) and have seen this alot...the main thing to remember is do not let him give up, try to stay in good spirits, sometimes recovery is quick sometimes it takes a little longer, sounds like he is doing quite well for having his stroke 3 days ago. Bless you and best of luck to your husband on his recovery!
Yes, he can recover and be himself (almost) again. Time and patience along with
therapy will get him there.
try to take him into therapy..in 6months he can recover but not as good as when he havent got the stroke
