I understand the difference and can convert centrigrade to Farenheit (more or less) But how do you convert temp below freezing poing...if it is minus 8 say in Centrigrade what is it in Farenheit....
It is 17.6 fahrenheit. Use this conversion calculator - it explains the processes and allows you to claculate every temperature:

Exactly the same method is used, regardless of the 'sign' of the temperature in Centigrade. For instance, your given example of -8 C:
-8 x 1.8 = --14.4
-14.4 + 32 = 17.6
The answer is 17.6 Fahrenheit.
All you really need to do to avoid getting caught out is to make sure you treat the sign of the temperature correctly.
I hope this helps, but please do feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to go over this or any aspect of figure-work further.
dont use Farenheit, only americans use it. If you must convert then convert to Kelvin as zero is absolute zero rather than freezing pt of water
As an added side line. -40 degrees Centigrade is -40 degrees Fahrenheit.
The conversion formula is exactly the same for temperatures above or below zero. Multiply by 9/5 and add 32
so -8 * 9/5 = -14.4
-14.4+32 = 17.6 F
Just put in your number.

Temperature Converter Version 2:
-8C=17.6F
here's the formula;
celsius to F
F=1.8(C)+32
F to C
C=(F)-32/1.8
the answer is 17.6F
