The check engine and ABS light along with a flashing break light are on in my 99 passat. I recently fixed the check engine light and cleared all codes. Nothing came on for a while until a couple weeks ago. it gave me the code for the check engine p0441 which is EVAP Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow. Anybody know what it could be? I erase the code and it comes back on a couple days after. I tightened the as cap all the way and cleaned the valve next to the air filter. Car runs fine with lights on. Now with the ABS I have no idea what it could be! I tried to read it but it wouldn't communicate or maybe machine does not read abs.

Nearly ALL codes on VW engines are cause by dirty THROTTLE BOIES and IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVES. Remove your air intake snorkel, and clean the devil out of your throttle body. ALl VW engines REQUIRE special engine oil that gives off NO vapor and can handle higher heat. NO VALVOLINE EVER!!!! It is WAX based and will RUIN VW engine selas and timing components with time. FLush out engine and use ONLY MObil ONe 0W-40, as it is the easiest to find. There are better German made oils, but Mobil One is JUST FINE!!! THere is a purge valve near your throttle body tha can get clogged up, It is normal to replace it after 100,000 miles or so. Check your CRANKCAE VENTILATION hoses and valves. There is NO PCV valve on a VW engine, just a series of smaller valves and hoses that cross flow engine vapors for burning. ABS sensor seem to get enraged when brake pads are replaced many times. It MIGHT be that the sensors were distrubed, or that the wiringg harnesses were not re-attached. Go back in time to your last brake job, and checek with whomever did the work for you. Sometimes a quicky lube can spot a dangling harness or bad wire connector from underneath your car. GOOD LUCK!!
The most common way to reset the Check Engine light in the driveway is by removing the negative battery cable for a few minutes and the reconnecting it....this will allow the computer to reset and relearn its parameters as you drive the vehicle...
Maybe catalytic converter. Good luck
