I'm going to start recording emulator gameplay on my computer for walkthrough videos with a buddy of mine, but I'm not quite sure what kind of screen recorder to get for the job. Is there a specific software that I need to have for the right framerate capture?

FRAPS. It's 20 dollars I think for the full version but absolutely worth it.
Yup Fraps is definetely the best screen recording software for games although it depends what exactly you want. The only downside of Fraps is that it divides your recording into separate .avi files of 4GB each. There is also a few other good recording softwares out there such as Dxtory or ezvid.
I've tried out all the softwares mentioned in this answer so I know what i'm talking about. I've tested all of them and Fraps is the best. Hope this helped!
