Some schools have serious crime problems on a daily basis, so it makes sense to have police there.
It does not make sense to put a police officer in every school just in case of a shooter coming to kill kids. That would be a huge waste of money to pay the salary and pension of a cop who does absolutely nothing for his entire career except wait and see if his is one of the ten or twenty that will be attacked in his lifetime.
It makes far more sense to simply allow teachers who are trained to carry concealed firearms. Grownups all across America carry guns every day, to work, jogging, playing with their kids in the park, in movie theaters...
The problem is that Bill Clinton made it illegal for them to carry their guns in school to protect their students. "Gun Free Zones" have given us horrible massacres, like Columbine, Santee, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook and others. All because mature, responsible teachers are not allowed to protect the students.
That is just sick.
So, for most schools, a hired police officer is a huge waste of money and the cop's time. He could be out chasing criminals. Just let the teachers protect the children and solve the problem.
The police are less likely to cause problems in the schools than the students are. Police officers don't wear their pants halfway down to their knees, they don't wear gang-related clothing, and they don't talk back to the teachers.
Yes, Police need to be in schools, so they can re-learn the courses and social skills the majority of them flunked on their way to their bully-idiot jobs.
