I can't figure out how to do ANYTHING!
How do I find my cache? How do I empty it?
How do I take my downloaded music files & burn them onto a CD?
I keep getting the message "last backup failed"--how do I fix that?
I keep getting the message "low disc space"--how do I fix that?
A friend of ours (whom we no longer see) set up our computer & now neither my husband or I can figure it out! :( Any practical help would be appreciated. Thank you.

By cache, I'm assuming you mean Temporary Internet Files. To clean up temporary files, in the control panel, click "Network and Internet". Under "Internet Options" there is a sub-heading called "Delete browsing history and cookies". That will open up a window you can explore and see if it does what you want it to do.
To burn music to a CD, put in a blank disc and it should ask you about several options you can do with a blank disc. One of them should be something like "Burn music using Windows Media Player".
Sorry I'm unfamiliar with Vista backups, but if you go to the control panel and search in the top right for "Backup" you may get a couple options that can lead you to the backup program (so you can disable it).
As for the low disc space, you can run Disk Cleanup by going to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> Disk Cleanup. You might as well run a Disk Defragmenter after that is done, as well. You'll find that option next to Disk Cleanup.
To empty your internet cache, just go to Tools > Options > Clear Private Data. (That is for Mozilla, at least. It is something similiar on IE.)
To burn files onto a CD, first make sure that you have the right CD in the drive, and then go to the CD drive. (Should be the D: drive). Drag and drop files into it, and then click "Burn" on the toolbar at the top. I strongly suggest this method over the method posted in the first answer. It's much easier to see what you have on the disk, and what you have being written to the disk.
Also, remember the Almighty Google. Try searching your last two questions. (Of course, with Low Disc Space, that most likely isn't a software [Windows Vista, in this case] problem, it's more likely a hardware problem. Well, not so much a problem, just that you have low RAM or have a lot of files on your computer.
If you don't mind me asking, was Windows Vista installed over a pre-exisiting OS? (As in, did you buy the computer and it had Vista as the default Operating System, or did you buy the computer with XP and your friend upgraded for you?) In my experience, installing an OS over another OS will take up a lot of your CPU space.
You are suffering from the misunderstanding that the IT industry want your computer to work properly. If it did that, you'd wait longer before buying another one. Software upgrades are really about messing it up so you are forced to dump it and get a new one.
I suspect that you can't burn your music onto a CD because the likes of Sony and EMI don't want you to. "Last backup failed" sounds like a typically uninformative and inaccurate Microsoft error message. You fix low disc space by buying a new hard drive. I use an external USB2 one from Western Digital called Passport. Maybe try that for big files?
TO REMOVE CACHE FROM YOUR SYSTEM GO TO RUN BY HOLDING DOWN WINDOWS KEY + R .... THEN IN RUN TYPE %TEMP% DELETE THE TEMP CACHE .
ALSO DELETE PREFETCH FOLDER CONTENT IT WILL HELP
ALLWAYS SPECIFY THE LOAD LOCATION WHILE DOWNLOAD
AND JUST TAKE THE FILE OR FOLDER ON CD OPTION IN MY COMP THEN GO IN CD DRIVE SELECT WRITE THESE FILES ON CD
CHECK THE BACKUP IN TO CTRL PANEL WINDOWS UPDATE FOLDER AND ACCORDING TO THE ERROR CODE CHECK RESOLUTION WITH THE SUPPORT.MICROSOFT.COM
LOW DISC SPACE CAN BE FOR ANY DISC
