Last night my friend was shot at and shrapnel and glass was embedded in his face.

He claims although he knows the person the police won't do anything because the shooter has schizophrenia.

I fully understand that insanity can get you out of prison time, but they're not going to allow a violent person to do as they please because they have a mental health disorder.

He claims this all started because the shooter became paranoid because my friend would text and he assumed he was texting about him.

He didn't call the police and didn't seek medical attention because "that would make everything worse". Which to me means there's more to the story.

So are they just not going to do anything to a violent person because they have schizophrenia?
