Most of the time in his movies he plays a larger than life character, one that's so out of the box and extraordinary, but in What's Eating Gilbert Grape he plays a character that's as human as one could get. That's nothing spectacular about Gilbert, he's not a lunatic pirate (I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan and I mean that in a completely complementary way), a bank robber, a successful and grand playwright, he doesn't have scissors for hands, a cross-dressing eccentric movie director, nor a singing murderous barber. Just an selfless older, bored brother trying to take care of his family. I love the character of Gilbert Grape, he makes you want to be a good person. It's just a sweet movies. Leonardo DiCaprio does a spectacular job as well.
I will also say I'm a pretty big Ed Wood fan, I just love the eccentricities of the character and the out of this world life he has. I also love the situations he gets into and how it all just flys right over his head. Great movie
Finding Neverland. I watched it for the first time about a week ago, and I thought it was beautiful. I'm also a HUGE Peter Pan nerd.
You can put Johnny Depp in anything and it will be amazing, although I must say his Mad Hatter costume on the Alice in Wonderland poster is particularly creepy.
Its one of my favorites because in it Johnny is a FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate the Mob,and he dangerously starts to identify more and more strongly with the made men he's charged with taking down. It is based on a true story. And it's the tough, fighting, new york accent, I'll bet your a** if you touch me, kind of character.
I can't pick a favorite I love them all because it doesn't matter whether he's playing a scissor handed cripple or the demon barber of fleet street or even the mad hatter in the new alice movie, he's hot not matter what!!!!!!
i'd say sweeney todd, but his acting in edward scissorhands was really incredible because he portrayed the character very well even though there was very little dialogue.
edit- i also have to agree with the people who say finding neverland. he was really convincing in that :]

Finding Neverland or Benny and Joon. I like these movies because he steps out of the weird Johnny Depp with Tim Burton roles that he gets into.
Donnie Brasco
