I am planning my honeymoon in the Greek islands in late August & early September ... basically the last week in August & the first week in September. I have heard that August in the Greek Islands is hot and crowded ... both of which we want to avoid. I have heard that September is a sweet spot because the weather is warm but not hot, and it's much less crowded.
I'm wondering, then, whether things trail off pretty quickly in August, so that by the time we're there, it will be very nice ... or is it one of those things where the islands are hopping & crowded all the way through August, and only starts trailing on in early September.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Good choice of holiday/honeymoon!
I am a regular visitor to the island of Zante/Zakynthos. I like to go for the first week in September as, like you say its not too crowded and the weather is still nice and warm. Plus, its classed as out of season so is cheaper. Don't let this put you off as the Greeks don't seem to start winding down till mid September so everything is open and running as it would have been in mid season.
We went for 2 weeks beginning September this year. The first week was nearing 37'c, which even the Greeks were saying was too hot but thats the first time I've known it to be that hot at this time of year, however, the second week we had 2 days of very heavy rainfall and clouded skies. Apparently, the second week in September in Zante is the time for rain and it can almost be guaranteed.
From my experiences, the first week of September is the best time to visit any of the Greek Isles with regards weather and no crowds.
Good luck and enjoy your time there, Greece is truly excellent.
The last week of August is OK. There is still people, but many come back to Athens after August 15-20, when ther eis a big holiday for Greeks. So the last week of August and first week of September is indeed the best time.
very nice period.The best!
