I bought a new 2013 Ford Fusion about a month ago. It has 560 miles. When I start the car, all the dashboard lights flash on for less than a second then go out (normal, I know). However, the wrench icon (which I looked up and represents "Powertrain Fault") stays on for about 3 seconds, then turns off. That is the only light that stays on for an extra couple seconds. I could be completely overreacting and this is perfectly normal, I just don't remember this happening when I first got the car. Anyway, I thought I'd check here before I call the dealership. Is this normal, or is there some problem with my new car? Thanks a lot for your time!

My guess is there's nothing to worry about as long as the light doesn't remain on. Many of the sensors that report the conditions of some components can't make that report until the component is functioning normally and that may take a few seconds after a start. If the light isn't on steady after the engine starts you're fine.
since car is new .. it may simply be a sensor needed extra second or so to stabilise. however.. do inform them the light is coming on even though going off after all others have turned off.
this at least gives chance to check it over and see if its going to be an issue ( they can run a diagnostic) or as it will be 'logged' as a potential issue.. ought to be covered under warranty should an event related to it occur.
if under warranty now? book it in for a quick check.
Hi Patrick,
The Owner Guide states "Some lamps will illuminate when you start your vehicle to make sure they work. If any lamps remain on after starting your vehicle, refer to the respective system warning lamp for further information." on page 79 of the third printing found here: https://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagen...
I am not a technician, so I suggest if you are concerned about this to bring it into your dealer to have a diagnosis.
