I'm a former Army serviceman from Singapore who's going to college in Baltimore this coming Fall, and I want to bring my old military equipment (i.e. tactical vest, boots, NO helmet, uniforms) in my check-in luggage. Will TSA give me trouble for this? I have my military photo ID ready on hand if TSA officers want to verify my military status (I'm still in the reserves and so I still have a valid reason to own such equipment).
I intend to use the equipment for recreational purposes like paintball and airsoft, and no, I don't intend to use live firearms, as I know it's against the law for nonimmigrant visa holders to play with them.

As long as it is not a weapon or communications equipment then it will be no problem. BUT... if they do search your luggage and they see that stuff knowing you are only a student you will be put on a kind of watch list because of your suspicious activity.
Both of those answers are crap. TSA doesn't care why you have something in your checked bag as long as it's not going to bring the plane down. Even if you had a firearm they wouldn't care unless it wasn't declared to the airline. Lots of people have boots and vests and all kinds of stuff (like hunters or law enforcement etc). So you will have no problems. Good luck in school!!!
