This bird is a fledgling and you need to put it back near to where you fond it. It will beable to fly in a few days. This is normal for baby birds out of the nest to live on ground for few days until they can fly. Keep dogs in for a few days or put it on a tree branch out of harms way. Best to keep dogs in for a few days though. The parent birds will come feed it and will guide it to safety by calling it and warnining it of danger. they cant move it but they can call it. Keeping it a few days will kill it most likely from stress as it sees you as a predator also and that is why it is breathing hard and fast. Good luck and good that you thought enough of it to help it :).
First off keep the bird in an empty shoe box lined with towels, for a heat source use a desk lamp with a 40 or 60 watt blub. DON'T PUT THE LIGHT DIRECTLY OVER THE BIRD!!! sligtly off to the side will do just fine. Secondly, go to your local petstore and go the reptile section and buy a few crickets(DON'T use the ones outside your house, they may have something on them that can kill your bird). Once you get home put the crickets in a blender with a small amount of water(warm water will work but don't use tap water). Blend up the crickets and give the mxture to the bird using a clean eyedropper or syrange without a needle. Take it easy when you feed the bird so he or she doesn't choke. He or she will need to be fed every 2 to 3 hours(including during the night). This is just some stuff you can do for the first 24 to 48 hours. After that you do have some options. 1. Calling a wildlife shelter to take the bird or 2. Getting advice from a vet on how to take care of the bird. If you get advice from a vet or someone who rehabs wild life chances are you can raise the bird until its old enough to be on its own.
Baby birds are very volnirable. If you can get the nest and fix it somewhat and place it in the same tree as high as it was or as high as you can and check to see if mom comes back. Stay int he house and dont go outside for a while. If no site of her in a coupke hrs, than get the babies.
Dont leave him out there cats and other animals can kill them.
Well first off you need to get them in a safe and quiet room.
Does it have feathers? ANy at all, does it stand? If its featherless and pink its a newborn, if it has feathers its a fledgling.
If its unable to sit on finger or stand well you need to keep them warm with a heatingpad(low not too hot) and get an old towel and shap it like a nest shape than ge a washcloth and spread it over the baby birds. This is only if they have no fathers.
You need to go to the petstore and get some formula. Formula for all birds. Get one cup and fill it with 1 cup of formula and one cup of warm water( The little cup that came with formula). Mix it well and use a syringe to feed it. Dont do too much at a time or it may regergitate. DONT give it water. It will choke. There is the right amount of water in the formula needed. Dont feed it worms. They have bacteria that could hurt them, only mom can break it down.
When they are fledgling which it has feathers and can hop around then they can eat watermelon pieces, mealworms(HEADS cut off or they will eat its insides), bananas pieces, veggies pieces, and seeds(wild bird seed). Unless it cant hopp or sit on your finger or have any feathers you can feed him formula and he other foods listed. If he is pecking at stuff when you hold it then he doesnt need syringe. Only a bird cup.
If its able to sit on your finger and hop on the ground It needs a cage, perches, and feed/ water cups. The cage can be for a cockatiel, thats a fine sixe for it. Cut up all the foods listed and place them in the food dich and sprinkle seeds on the bottom of the cage and mealworms(With heads cut off) on the bottom, it teaches them how to foriege. You can even add a mirror. It keeps them intertained. Make sure that you keep the cage cleam with newspaper on the botom. The bird will be more happier. Place the cage near a window to calm him down as well.
When he can fly you can release him outside. As long as he can fly. He may come to you for food though. You could even keep him if you would like but get a bigger cage for thim.
Goodluck

Wild birds are extremely difficult to keep alive because they stress out if they can't get away. Let the thing go. Just lock up the dogs for a while and give it a chance to go away.
you are right, the bird is breathing hard because it is scared. have you seen the parents? if so, put the bird where the parents can find it and keep the dogs in. they take care of the babies on the ground when they are learning to fly. do not feed it anything or give it water, as you can kill doing so. or please contact a wildlife rehabber in your area to care for the bird.
I would probably take it to a local park and let it go.
If you're worried about, try taking it to an animal hospital.
I'm not sure if they do treatment on wild birds though.
let it go if i can fly it just cant fly high/ fast because its younge it may have fleas your house may be getting infestted now!@
