i had a routine ultrasound today (12w4d) and my OB got one quick glimpe and said "your having a boy!" and then we couldnt find it again because the baby kept moving.... i thought 12 weeks was really early. is there a good chance he could be wrong? i have another ultrasound in 4 weeks.

Usually the earliest to tell gender is 14 weeks, but its definitely possible that you OB could be right :) you will have another US at 20 weeks, this is when they usually tell gender :)
Yes they can tell at 12 weeks but its only a 50% chance. I know a few people that have been told the gender at 12 weeks but it depends on the tech and if they want to tell you or not. The reason why they don't tell you is because if people don't like what their having they have an abortion. This is what an ultrasound tech told me so i know its true.
There's always a slight chance.... but like you, at 12 wk 6 days I had a transvaginal US and the doc said 97% girl. He was able to view right between her legs. It was very obvious there was no wee wee. At 16 wks 5 days I had a regular US and they said it still looks like a girl. I also had a guy friend who showed me his baby boys US around the same age as my baby and you could see the wee wee with his. So to answer your question, I think it can be pretty accurate that early. Technology is advancing. Congrats!
18 wks 5 days
I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks, and it was a girl. at 14 weeks i had them do a gender test and its a girl. but at 12 weeks its hard to tell the difference. usually at 18+ weeks you will get a more accurate result.
I read that you can't tell until 15 weeks although the female or male organs start growing at about 13 weeks. It's a 50% chance he's right, but it's unlikely that he can even tell at this point.
Acctually you can tell at 12 weeks its just that the girl is swollen so she can be mistaken for a boy! Good luck!
it is too early to say when it is just 12 weeks. the most that you can be sure of the sex of the fetus is 6 month old
you can tell at 12 weeks sometimes, its just not as accurate, i wouldn't start buying baby boy clothes yet, but its a good possibility that it is a boy.
12 weeks is to early to determine gender.
The doctor is wrong (in that one can distinguish gender that early), male and female embryos share the same genitals morphologically until they are feti (14 weeks) and things start to change.
