No, Johnny Zacchara did not die. If it was I would be disappointed and you are so right, it would be a horrible exit for Johnny's character.
What this shooting is meant to do is a few of things:
1) It gives Claire and Ronnie finally a reason to put Sonny behind bars once and for all (even though knowing Sonny, he is either not going to end up in jail or he'll be there for very little time.
2) It gives Johnny the chance to avenge his sister Claudia's death and make Sonny miserable by putting Sonny behind bars and taking his territory.
3) It put even more strain and focus onto the Sonny and Kristina relationship. Kristina and Sonny were starting to talk again, going to dinner once a week and even found common ground on the subject of Brenda, but now with Johnny shot and Kristina thinking it is somewhat her fault, her hatred for Sonny may return.
genuinely what i somewhat imagine is that is going to be yet another Liz/fortunate/Jason ingredient. Johnny acts so very comparable to Jason used to act, and they have the same dynamic because the older triangle. to make sure that them to attempt this, they had to make Johnny more beneficial likable than contained in the starting up. besides Johnny is staying in Port Charles for a lengthy time period, he won't be able to be that loopy and reckless!

No, Brandon Barash (The actor who plays Johnny) is not leaving.
He won't die. He's a big part of the show now and there are no indications of him leaving.
