Camestudio is a good free screen recorder, I also heard of hypercam but have not tried it.
(Camstudio don't have opengl/directx options for game recording).
For video game free recording software.
Fraps (you want to avoid this garbage).
- Free version only allows 30 seconds recording time, so either pay or pirate this garbage.
- Lags.
- No compression = huge file sized videos.
- It may split up your videos = annoying.
- It has very few options, no options on changing quality, fraps records at the same resolution the game is playing at which does equal good quality, so to lower quality if you need to you have to lower your game's (properties) or windows (properties) resolution.
Bandicam
- Free version allows 10 minutes of recording time.
- No lag.
- Compresses video while recording.
- Nice options.
Playclaw
- Free version allow unlimited recording time.
- No lag.
- Compression+quality options.
- I know it works for games that have opengl or only directx 9-11
There are not many other free game+screen recording software out there, you can try trail versions (=free for only a certain amount of days then you can no longer use the program, unless you pay or renew it).
There is a lot of these out there you can try, I heard(not tried it since it's not free) that total screen recorder is good :/ .

I'm using Fraps.
A good program to record video and audio from games, but I think it's shareware so you'll just have to google it's hacked version ;)
I'm not aware of any free ones (some may have trials) but a couple good ones are
PlayClaw : http://playclaw.com/
