Mainstream music to me pretty much sucks. I really dislike practically everything on the radio. I've been trying to find underground rock that I like but haven't had much success.
I have become obsessed with early 90's bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains recently.
Punk is also sounding really cool whenever I listen to stuff like Black Flag, The Germs or The Clash.
I don't really like really heavy metal.
Only new bands I like would be Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Rise Against, and The Foo Fighters.
If someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome.
P.S. just a reminder...I really like Nirvana :)
Thanks Again!
Update:I didn't expect all the help! Got a lot of stuff to check out now. Thanks again peeps :)

These are bands that most people aren't familiar with.
Jawbreaker was a great 90's band. Nirvana were fans of them. In fact I think that there's a picture floating around of Cobain wearing a Jawbreaker t-shirt. The Foo Fighter's did a cover of "Kiss The Bottle". The song "Kiss The Bottle" appears on Jawbreaker's "Etc." compilation. I think that "Bivouac" is their best album, but it also seems to take some getting use to, especially if you are not familiar with this band. I would suggest "24 Hour Revenge Therapy", as a starting point, because it's arguably as good and much more accessible.
Les Thugs and Seaweed are arguably the two best bands to ever release a full length on Subpop records. "Spanaway" by Seaweed, is their best album, and one of the best albums from the nineties. Les Thugs was a very consistent band from France, who sang in English. If you can find the 2 disc best of called "Road Closed" that would be a good place to start. If you can't find it, you might try the CD "Still Hungry" which includes the album "Still Hungry" plus 2 EP's. One of Subpops co-founders said Les Thugs were "song for song, one of the greatest rock bands in the world".
Some say the Wipers were the first Grunge band. I think they were more of a punk band. They started in the late seventies, and didn't last very long, but they were pretty good and were influential to bands like Nirvana. Hüsker Dü was also influential to bands like Nirvana.
There was an obscure band from Portland called Hazel in the 90's that was sometimes considered grunge, or indie, or punk. People didn't know what to call them, but you should check them out.
Kudzu Wish was a great band that broke up too soon. "Reverse Hurricane" is a great post-hardcore album, and one of the best albums from the past decade.

Technically, Black Sabbath have been fairly underground of their heyday. i prefer to propose the Velvet Underground. they're little question the STRANGEST, maximum unique band i've got ever heard. pay attention to a pair of their previous due-'60s track.
If you like Nirvana, I think you might also like Melvins. My personal suggestions are Kyuss and Brant Bjork. You might like Gruntruck as well. They are a very underrated grunge band. If you like some progressive rock, Camel are really good.
keep the old 90's alive Soundgarden, audioslave, get the into the wild soundtrack its eddie vedder acoustic the whole album...STP is a great band as well look up temple of the dog
lots of good bands like early linkin park drowning pool stone temple pilots metallica?Rage Against the Machine
Framing Hanley? They're kind of post-grunge and they are really good!
also Black Veil Brides are really good :) They are like post-hardcore or something like that.
