Hey,
I currently have begun preparation for graduate school but im afraid of the entire concept of it. I have made it through college for the most part with little to no loans. The only problem is the school i attend isn't a high standing school with great a reputation.(my major is business btw, and i want to major in Marketing). So i thought that to go to graduate school i should look into schools with good reputations. Im in NYC so i looked at NYU, and columbia. I also looked at Harvard mostly because i dreamed of going as a child. The CUNY schools don't seem to impress people much besides baruch and i want to give myself the best chance to have a career i will be happy with (im interested in marketing and/or public relations). The only fear i have is the money. I am a member of a low income family and have a job that wont really cut it if i have to pay out of pocket. And loans for $50,000-$75,000 scare me to death.
I just would like to hear from someone that was in my shoes that can explain to me how it works and if i should try. My current GPA is a 3.0. I can bump it up to about a 3.5 since i transferred here after 2 years but my gpa in the college before was only a 2.5 (freshman year was a big transition for me ). I have recommendations from 4 professors (attended Syracuse, Columbia, and NYU respectively). 3 recommendations from a JR high where i interned (principal, teacher, and assistant principal). I havent taken my GMAT as of yet. Studying hard. Just need some insight.
Update:If i cant make top schools can you please recommend what to do to get into A graduate school or what graduate schools to look at . I would like advice not "hey you cant get in...sucks to be you"..that isnt helpful.

Your GPA will probably be too low for NYU and Columbia which also require two or three years of responsible paid relevant post-baccalaureate business experience for admission. Baruch appears to be your best opportunity. A loan of no more than $75,000 should not be a repayment problem if you find a job which pays at least median earnings for an MBA.
Recommendations from before college don't count for anything. The community college GPA is going to drag you down, so you've got the minimum GPA to apply to any business school. You have not mentioned any work experience, which most MBA programs require. You have no shot at a top school, or even a pretty good one, given this information.
