Guinea pigs all the way! Guinea pigs are so easy to take care of, and are sooooo loving and friendly! I'm not kidding you, I can go in my room and they'll wheek at me for a whole minute. Then I can leave, and come back in a couple minutes and they do it again!! Haha. But anyway, "Charles Ramsey" is wrong. Healthy guinea pigs can live 7 years! And hamsters can live up to 5 years! You are free to choose for yourself, but I recommend guinea pigs! :)
TIP: If you do decide on a guinea pig, it's actually best to get two, they each help the others stress levels a lot, and it also just helps them live more happily. (Guinea pigs are very social) Good luck!!
I have had guinea pigs, hamsters, dogs, birds, cats, turtles, and the list goes on. Guinea pigs are the harder to take care. Gosh it's exhausting..you have to clean their cage 2 times a week and you are practically obligated to make a HUGE cage so you need space. You can't buy just one so that means you need two meaning that you need a bigger cage..the food is expensive, the hay, the bedding and making a cage..gosh. Don't get me wrong, i love my guinea pigs but a self-cleaning cage will lessen my stress :)
obviously guinea pig because they are cute, playful and they complete the family of yours.
even hamsters are cute but guinea pigs are bigger than hamsters.
if this is your first time then you should take a guinea pig, it will help you to gain experience if you will be taking a cat or dog in the future, because it is bigger than hamster and you want one of them that's why.
however both of them die fast but I think guinea pig are great.
even I am going to buy a pet this year that's why I have done a lot of research :D.
It depends... I have a garden with grass and a shed so I keep my guinea pigs in there and let them out in their run when it is sunny, and I find them to be the cutest things ever ^////^
They're diurnal/ not nocturnal so I can play with them during the day, they tend to be social and live in small groups (my advice is to get 2 girls and make ABSOLUTE sure they are female as we didn't and went from 3 pigs to 11 within just over 2 months.. -_-'') And they keep the grass down too ^^
I would just make sure you have a big enough hutch (no wire on the floor as it hurts their feet) and a secure run (a stray cat sometimes runs around our garden but i keep a water gun just in case >:D) for outside if you have grass, or a room you can let them run around in.
Although if you do get guinea pigs, then they do last 4-7 years and are quite demanding about food (mine abuse me with the puppy-dog eyes ;__;) But i do love them very much and will miss them when i go to college in the Autumn.
personally i think guinea pigs are more affectionate as they are calm so you can stroke them and talk to them (to comfort them) where as hamsters are more energetic so most of them don't sit still enough for you to stroke it but guinea pigs need a bigger cage and i think they eat more

I own both and overall I prefer guinea-pigs personally, but I think that hamsters are easier to care for.
It depends on your individual preference but I would go for guinea-pigs (bearing in mind you must have at least 2)
hope that helps :-)
If you want a more active one during day and night then get a guinea pig. Hamsters are more active at night!

guinea pig
hamsters most likely because they are smaller and require less everything because they came from the desert.
Neither they both die too fast.
