The second link gives more detailed motorcycle fatality statistics for 2011
The articles do not go into the fine detail of make and model. However you can clearly see that more fatalities happen on Sport and Super Sport bikes than on Cruisers.
It's the rider, not manufacturer/make of motorcycle. Most sportbikes are WAY more competent at being motorcycles, than their riders are at riding them. A sportbike, or any bike, only does what you tell it to. I see a LOT of young (18-26 year olds) kill themselves because they aren't smart riders.
Then there are the inattentive drivers out there as well, texting while driving. You can't be dumb and ride a motorcycle.
I would think the Harley riders are by a long way the safest of most bikers as they appear to have a lot of respect for their bikes. Not my 'cup of tea' , although only had one short ride on one many years ago, I stuck with British and bought a Norton 650SS, and very nice it was too.
well since motly younger men buy sport bikes as opposed to older [read middle aged midlife crises] men buy HD [or import ] cruisers ; I would think the majority of accidents and fatalities are on import sport bikes. At 100 plus MPH things happen REAL FAST. If you want to see some really good riders watch any group of patch holders riding IN FORMATION at 100 MPH. These guys really know how to ride. Say what you want about HD [or 1%ers] They are for the most part expert riders!
