I love TV, but the problem here is that the type of programming you have access to is ultimately determined by your cable company. We think there is a lot of choice, but there really isn't when you take a closer look ...
Cable companies think they know what you want to watch and have bundled together select networks/programs/etc. for you. And this is grating to me - grrr.
And this is why a lot of people are turning to the Internet to find TV and videos that are unavailable, or at a cost. For example, I love watching Naruto - a popular Japanese anime - but I choose to watch it online as opposed to Cartoon Network because I like the subbed versions over the dubbed versions.
Impact on society - as more people turn to the Internet for TV and other entertainment, cable companies will need to figure out better ways to give their viewers what they want, which - in my humble opinion - is a win win for us. :-)
