Okay so my school is doing a play on seussical the musical. Auditions are in 5 days and it requires a prepared song and get ready for dancing. I want to audition but I've never auditioned for anything in my life. What are some tips?
1. What song should I sing?
2. What monologue should I do?
3. What should I know before I go?
4. Should I even try out?

I did quite a few shows in high school so hopefully I can help :)
1. What you sing really depends on what part you're trying out for. By your user name, I still couldn't really tell if you're a guy or a girl so this might be tough to give you examples of songs :P If you're trying out for a part, pick a song that shows off your voice and that sound similar to the character's style of singing. If you just want to be in the chorus, just pick a song that suits you. DO NOT pick a song from Seussical or any overdone shows like wicked, les miz, etc. the director will not want to hear it, i can promise you that.
2. try to pick a monologue that is light hearted and upbeat, just like seussical. It's actually surprising though that a high school will have you do a monologue, most will just have you read a selection from the script. but it is always good to prepare. rent a few play scripts from the library and see if you can find a good monologue.
3. KNOW THE SHOW. If you dont know anything about the show going in, they'll think you dont care, and why would they cast you if you dont care? if you cant rent the script beforehand, then look up synopses online and listen to the songs on youtube so you're familiar with them. They're more likely to cast the most dedicated people so make sure you're dedicated!
4. Always. Always. ALWAYS try out. every time I dont try out for a show, I will always kick myself in the butt for it later on. It's just another missed opportunity that you'll hate yourself for not taking. High school musicals were always really fun, even if you weren't a lead. And I mean, what's the worst that can happen? they dont cast you? oh well, either better luck next time, or maybe you decide musicals arent your thing. But dont let a missed opportunity come back to bite ya.
hope this helps :)
