I had an x-ray done at the chiropractor's office.
Results:
Every vertebrae is normal except for the lumbar 5 vertebra. It's deficient by 4mm on the top right of the vertebra.
Is that negligible, moderately bad,or really bad?
Update:I think I explained it wrong.
I have mild scoliosis(18degrees).This is why I even got the x-ray.
You know how with congenital scoliosis you'll have a wedge-shaped vertebra which acts as the origin/reason for curvature.Well my lumbar 5 vertebra is malformed in that way.The chiropractor said the 4mm is too small to cause the 18 degree curve.
When I visited the chiropractor,I had the goal in mind to one day have a straight spine, but he said my spine will never be completely straight because of it.
What's the cause of that 4mm difference?
Matador 89 explained how bone constantly regenerates itself.Could it be abnormal activity with osteoblasts & osteoclasts or any of the other bone components?
Age-18

Pinky has a Brain,
Your question does not explain in what the vertebra is deficient, it is therefore not possible to present an answer. It would appear that there is 4mm missing from the top of the vertebra, but one can not be sure from the information that you offer. Bone is not a dead, inactive substance but a living, active tissue made up of three main components - mineral (mainly calcium), matrix (tough collagen fibres and other substances, which give bone its resilience), cells called osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) and osteoclasts (bone-eroding cells). The structure of normal bone changes constantly. 'Old' bone is continually removed by the action of the osteoclast cells. It is replaced by new bone – made by the osteoblast cells. This turnover or renewal of bone is carefully balanced. If it weren't, you could suffer from bone 'fatigue' (rather like metal fatigue in old machines). If that happened your bones would be more likely to break. There is, for example, a disease of the bone called Paget's disease which affects bone growth. The abnormality occurs in the bone cells. The regular, ordered process of bone loss and formation is disrupted. The bone cells increase in number, become larger and also become more active. Bone turnover increases by up to forty times, and the new bone is abnormal in shape and structure. It is also weaker than usual. The increased activity of the bone cells also increases the blood flow through the bone. You would be advised to enquire of your chiropractor for an explanation of this reported “deficiency” and if there is not a satisfactory explanation, maybe a second opinion might be your way forward. There are many diseases and conditions that may cause deficiencies in bones.

First, you left out allot of info like age, weight, height, and so on. Since you went to the chiropractor I assume you're over 18 but by how much? Your weight has allot to do with it too. When you're overweight the weight will cause this to happen too. Did you ever injure yourself in this area? You might want to ask someone that was around when you were just an infant about this as this an early age injury is another factor. You also have the right to take a copy of this report, or the report itself to a neurologist for a more thorough makeup too. My personal opinon on it is that if there's nothing wrong with it, no pain or anything like any other symptoms then I'd forget about ntaking it any futher. Good luck and God Bless
