I am planning to buy a 2001 VW Jetta with 99,000 miles. First of all these miles seem low but i don't know, could be an old person. Also all the service records and receipts aren't available. His excuse: "Who honestly keeps all the receipts?" Which i guess is true. HELP, should i buy this car, how long will it last, what problems will i run in to, first car help

For the miles that also could be a bad thing if u dont use a car often it could be bad the cars needs to be turned on or used often its bad if he kept it sitting their for a while and reciepts honestly i dont keep my reciepts either its too much too keep up with
Well I have a 2000 with 100,000 on the dot. So low miles is good. As for receipts many dont but I do. Its always good. Now that car is used so you cant know for sure if it will be reliable depending on how he took care of it. Being old won't help. These cars only last if properly maintained. German cars cant use store brands. Uses same parts as Audi. I didn't know that when I first bought it. Had major problems til I learned about it and from then on had a reliable car.
The miles are okay--then again you could get someone who disconnected the speedometer cable with a view to resale. The best thing to do is ask to take i to a mechanic of your choice for inspection for purposes of buying. The mechanic may also have a different car he can steer you towards. It is still a higher level buying process. Most likely the car is good--or has limited defects. An inspection will answer all your questions.

HI, NOT TRUE. I ALWAYS KEEP ( KEPT ) ALL MY SERVICE RECORDS. YOU CAN GET THE V.I.N. NUMBER ( VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER ) AND BUY A CAR FAX REPORT ON THE CAR'S HISTORY. A WELL MAINTAINED CAR, ( MY 1994 CAMRY ) HAD 245,000 MILES ON IT. I'M REALLY NOT A FAN OF THAT PARTICULAR V.W. I'D LOOK FOR A TOYOTA COROLLA, CAMRY, HONDA CIVIC, ACCORD, NISSAN SENTRA OR ALTIMA. BETTER CARS AND MORE RELIABLE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU WITH YOUR FINAL DECISION.
