My friend said he's goin back to Iraq because they offer him a job there. He would make about 150k per year with no tax. He's 23 and doesn't have a college degree. This is his 4th year in Iraq. It make me wonder, so does anyone have a clue?

There are civilians working for companies like Blackwater, KBR and many others that make anywhere from 80-140 K for a year over there and it IS tax free.
Someone in the Military isn't likely going to make that but a civilian could.
You can google the military pay chart and see what he makes by his rank and years in service. Make sure you look at an active duty pay chart. And that is what he makes. He will also make more money because of BAH, Hazardous duty pay, substance allowance, ect there are a few more I can't think of right now that he'll get paid for on top of his normal pay.
Not being taxed, he would make some good money. Whether it's enough or not just depends on how well he and wife (if he was married) can budget...
An Australian with 4yrs experiance would make..
35k - pro rata salary
10k - service allowance
70k - 250/day for an 8month tour
And their are other allowances that may be paid.
If a Trp Ldr in the SASR did an 8month tour, they could expect an extra 160k sitting in the bank when they get home.
Also, when in country, ALL money earnt is earned without tax. No tax at all.
Too little than they should... They are doing one of the most important jobs and most risk taking jobs you can, it takes a LOT of skills and patience, hard work and you need to be top shape all time and can't eat any junk food while in duty.
An veteran obviously would earn more money then an recruit in the army.
Yes, it's possible. If he's only 23 years old and has no skills, then I think he's BSing you on how much he makes. I've been offered up to $300K, but I've got 26 years experience in doing my job.
By the way, that's as a contractor not as a military member.
A. He's must be going back as a civilian, not military.
B. He's not going to make 150K a year with no college.
C. Only the military pays no taxes.
D Military don't make anything near 150K a year
E Someone's blowing a bunch of smoke
if he is a US soilder, at age 23.. no way in hell will he make 150K
i am in iraq right now. i'm a E-5 with 6years in. i am making 4400 a month.. but i make more than most because my housing allowance is for a very wealthy zip code in floirda, so 1500 of that 4400 is just for housing allowance.
your friend is lying to you, very very bad lie. he probably makes 35-45K/yr
military pay
base pay- i'm a sgt with 6 yrs in and mines only 2400/month
house allowance- (if not married, its only about 700)
hazard duty pay-100
combat fire pay- 250
family sep - (if married 150)
I was shipping ordnance and supplies into the warzone for Military Sealift Command and made $103k with overtime.
*MSC is a civilian job. We're Merchant Seamen who run supplies back and forth for the U.S. military. Anyone who claims they are in the service would and should know that.*
well...i'm in an aviation unit in Hawaii.
there is no way that an enlisted or officer of the military would make that much money while in iraq.
So the max he wouldve been in the army is 6 years (if he joined at 17), and unless he somehow made it to be the Sergeant Major of the Army there is no way he would make 6 figures.
When deployed, you don't get taxed, and get hazardous duty pay, separation pay and not much more.
The only people i know who make 6 figures in Iraq are people who were prior enlisted and contracted to work for a company (like Sikorsky and LSI) attached to an army unit deploying.
This guy can't be in the military and going over there and make that. He's exagerating if he is.
Civillians can make that amount giving contracting jobs w/ the military but they are highly dangerous. (which is why it pays that much)
