My son is 6 weeks old and weighs 12 pounds (8 at birth). He can polish a 4-ounce bottle of Alimentum off no problem. Sometimes, he will still be hungry afterwards (sucking fingers, crying), and will start right in on another 2 ounces, sometimes (rarely) taking 6 oz., but most often 4.5 - 5 ounces. A lot of people on here, and his doctor say that he should only have 2 to 3 ounces. I can assure you, he will not be satisfied with this.
Any experience or opinions?

Hmmm. Both my kids were the same way. I say if they're hungry, let them eat. Both of mine usually ate about the same as yours, 5 oz or so. I never had anyone tell me that that was "bad". My son is super healthy and so is my daughter. Neither one of them were/are overweight nor ever had any kind of acid reflux. They ate it just fine. No major spit-ups or anything.... Hmmm.
Ok... Everyone has different opinions... My niece just had a baby girl July 9th weighs 5 lbs 7 oz 18.1 inches long at birth... She has been feeding the baby at the hospitall 1 to 2 oz.. last week she was feeding her 2 to 3 oz. over the weekend she has had 3 to 4 oz every 4 hours... She went to the doctor today and she has gone from 5lbs 7 oz to 6 lbs 1 oz 19 inches long... The doctor says she's fine.. My friend just recently had her son Friday.. He weighs 9lbs 10 oz. 21 inches long.. he started drinking close to 4 oz and the nurse or doctor that went to see them in the room asked how they were doing.. they are both fine and they asked about the feeding... they told my friend that if he's taking it, that's fine.. if he's not, then don't force him... So if I were you, I would be the judge to see how much he can take... as long as you are burping him in between 2 oz at the most... I'm not married or have kids but I have raised my twin nieces who are now 17 1/2 yrs old and my nephew who will be 15 in about 5 to 6 wks down the road... I'm getting ready to raise my great niece... So just give your son 6 oz... he may not drink it all.. he may just stay at 4 to 5 oz which is fine... I have heard people say that after 6 wks their baby would be so hungry that they would give their child a little cereal just to keep them from "starving" but it didn't do any harms... So really you can't always go by what the doctor says... All doctors are different.. You might get a doctor that says, it's not ok and then go to another doctor and they would say it's ok... so basically it's like you're on your own.. Just go by what your heart feels.. I hope that helps... Good luck!
My son will be 2 months on the 30th, and until recently (he hasn't been feeling well), would always finish off 4 oz. bottles every 3 hours. Sometimes he would whimper and I would offer him a little "snack" by breastfeeding him. Every baby is different, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. My son is now 12 lbs and 4 oz. and he was 7 lbs 5 oz when born. He seems to be gaining weight fine, so I wonder why his pediatrician would tell you to decrease the amount. Have you tried asking him? Also, at around 6 weeks my son went through a growth spurt and did about 5.5 oz. each feeding.

A 6 week old should not be drinking only 2-3 ounces. My daughter is 3 weeks and usually drinks anywhere from 4-5. Make you son about 5.5 ounces and he will drink what he wants. If your son is hungry let him eat.My daughters doctor said that it is normal for a 3 week old to drink anywhere from 3-5 ounces. I would switch doctors if his doctor said to feed a 6 week old 2-3 ounces.
My daughter weighed close to 9 pounds at birth and around 6 weeks she was eating around 4 ounces but probley not over 4...if hes hungry feed him... if it was me I wouldnt care what people or the doctors says...hes your son. and do what you wont to do. my daughter is almost 4 months old and she drinks a whole bottle now..
yeah thats the normal rang BUT boys are more hungier than girls thats why they grow faster. also you cant go by what other ppl say or polls b/c each baby is different and no where doest it say that the baby HAS TO EAT ONLY 2 or 3 oz. i fed my baby until she was full and satisfied and she is as healthy as she can be. so feed your baby until he is full and satisfied there shouldnt be a limit i mean theres no limit to how much we eat why should there be for babies.
Both of my babys were big eaters, if he is hungry let him eat I dont care what anyone else says, if he' healthy feedthe baby until hes full.
