My friend and I are ready for school but most of our shirts expose our underarms. Her underarms are very dark and mine are getting darker as well. Is there a way to whiten your underarms without having to buy medication or going to the doctor? I use dove anti perspirent. Is that causing this? :/ thank you.

Hi girl! I am 15 years old and was in the same sitch as you. I am a filipina with very dark coarse hair. I had dark underarms due to shaving.
I solved my problems, and so can you!
Here's what I did:
1. I stopped wearing deoderants. Deo's make your underarms darker because of the stuff they put in there! Every morning I like to wipe a cotton ball soaked with diluted apple cider vinegar OR lemon juice on my underarms. Not only have they lightened my underarms, but they stop the smell more effectively then normal deoderants I used (Like Dove, Lady SpeedStick, etc.) You can also use these on acne, and acne scars!
2. Dark underarms can be due to dead skin cell buildup. Start washing your underarms properly!
Do this EVERY night:
First wet underarms with hot warm water to open pores.
Apply soap or a cleanser on your underarms. I like to use Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser or a Aloe Vera Cream Cleanser. Then with a Pumice Stone (you can find this in the nail section in Walmart or Target) rub it on the soapy skin in circular motion GENTLY.
LEAVE IT ON YOUR UNDERARMS. The Cleansers work as a moisturiser for your underarms. If you wash your underarms with soap, then moisturise your underarms with a body butter.
4. See a dermatologist to find a lightening cream if number 5 does not work for you.
I also recommend to apply Kalamansi on underarms if dark armpits isn't due to a hair removal issue. Dark underarms can be of many reasons and if shaving and not washing skin properly isn't one of them.. You need to see a doctor or dermatologist ASAP!
5. Shaving, Hair Removal Creams and Plucking is a BIG no no!
If you do either the above then STOP IT. The above will make your underarms grow thicker and are more prone to ingrowns.
Please consider a SUGARING hair removal or WAXING hair removal.
I recommend SUGARING over waxing.
You may have not of heard of sugaring. But Sugaring is an ancient hair removal used by Egyptians from long ago (they still do it to this day) It is a very popular hair removal in other countries.
Sugaring removes hair from the roots like waxing does. The difference between sugaring and waxing is that sugaring is
1) made up of natural ingridents that consist of honey, lemon juice and sugar. These ingridents will lighten underarms, get rid of dead skin cells and remove hair. Unlike waxing where waxing is made up of chemicals and such. Because of this, this makes Sugaring more gentle and less harsher for your skin then waxing.
2) Sugaring sticks to and only gets rid of hairhair whereas waxing will stick to hair & skin and rip them both off|! 3) Sugaring is warm. Waxing is hot. You won't get burns like you can get from waxing.
4) Unlike waxing, you can use the sugaring wax on your skin multiple times (this gets rid of hair efficiently) whereas with waxing you can only wax the area once.
5. Because of these 3 reasons, this makes sugaring LESS painful then waxing.
I myself being a low pain tolerance girl didn't want to get her underarms sugared at all. But I was so desperate, so I tried it. And I loved the results!
I don't know how to describe the pain other then a band-aid being pulled off your hair. BUT it feels like its going really fast so you can't feel the pain as much, if that makes sense.
I would say the pain is about a 5 on a 1-10 scale.
The pain is bearable, not very painful and the sugaring is quick!
There is no after pain like there is for waxing. It will throb for a minute or two, but you won't feel anything other then that.
After you sugared your underarms, do not apply medication or deoderant for 24 hours. You will have skin irritation (red dots) on your skin but that is normal especially for first time sugarers.
To speed up the healing process of skin irritation, apply Aloe Vera Cream/Gel, Tea Tree Oil, or a light layer of Baby oil on underarms every night. This will help soothe and heal underarms.
Once the redness on underarms goes away, you can continue with your old cleaning routine until your next sugaring.
The price for this is 15$, I got mine done at a house salon. I found my sugaring salon (Amici's Sugar Hair Salon) on googling: "Sugaring Hair Removal Salons [put your city and province name here]"
I recommend sugaring, it really does work and I'm surprised at how hair free my skin is!! I can wear my underarms in public finally :)
The bright side of sugaring is that the more you get your underarms sugared, the less you have to come back! After 2 or 3 appointments, you can come once a month or once every 2 months (depending on hair growth)
Sometimes in some cases, sugaring can permanently remove hair from underarms because it damages hair follicles over time!
Give your underarms 3 sugaring appointments before you can say it doesn't work. I guarantee great results!

Try some of the natural skin whitening recipes from here https://tr.im/skinwhitening
You will see how the skin will become whiter and the brown spots will vanish in just a matter of weeks, without too much effort or any side effects. Beauty is now cheaper for those who want to get rid of hyperpigmentation!
How To Whiten Armpits
Do you use deodorants? Actually, they contain Aluminum compounds which cause the darkening. It's also a component of tawas: Potassium Aluminum Sulfate, Dodecahydrated. During my rotation in Dermatology, I had a similar patient, she was advised to stop using any deodorant, use talcum powder instead and to have her underarms lasered, it will not just lighten the skin but also permanently remove the hair. (Of course it is costly) However, with our kind of weather, talcum powder won't do. (For me it doesn't work, I stink if I don't use deodorant) I've never heard of exfoliating underarms though, because your armpits are considered as one of the most sensitive skin areas of your body. (The skin layer is thin compared to other parts of the body)

Someone's making a new deodorant that's supposed to lighten up your pits. I don't remember who it is, sorry. D: But they have commercials on TV all the time, try and keep your eye out and pay attention to magazine adds. I'm fairly sure it's either Secret or Dove.
You could also try switching to gel deodorant? I don't think that stains the way solids do. I think the solids block up you pores more, and that's part of what causes it. I dunno, it's all explained in that commercial.
You should see your doctor. Dark underarm skin could be a sign of diabeties.
