What the heck is this thing? It was AT LEAST 3 inches. I found another one out side that was 4 inches. What the !%!%!#%!# I am not exaggerating. I live in NYC. I do not think it is an American Cockroach. It was 3 inches and WIKI says they are less than 2.
I have a toddler who eats things and leaves crumbs etc. What do I do?
Sorry it is midnight and totally unexpected when I turned on the light and almost stepped on it bare foot. I have not seen any other signs of bugs. (I.e. check under sink, light casings, vacuuming, etc.
Update:Great suggestion about spraying the outside. I found it at the front door. (Was checking locks before I went to sleep like I do every night. It was pitch black, so I turned on the lights to check the door, and there it was.
Update 3:While the night vision goggles would be cool! I am POSITIVE that there are no other pest in the house. We are having a heat wave in NYC so I turned off the ac in my place to conserve electricity. I read that "tree roaches" not sure if that is a real term - like hot humid places. Cranking up AC in bedroom tonight.

well in my 2 bedroom apt - in florida - we have what we call palemeto bugs that are kind of like a cockroach - they look the same only way bigger then a cockroach and they fly - 3- 4 inches - huge - anyway i had to pull every droor in the kitchen completly out - spray everything behind the droors and every hole - this includes cable box outlets - and i even fogged twice - nothing came around for weeks and i thought i had it licked - but i forgot to spray in the hotwater tank and heater closet - these are the best hiding places and its dark - of course they dont like any kind of light at all - but a few dont care - most dont like light at all - so you can temperarly put a light on all night in the room you sleep in - another trick is they hate bleach water on floors mopping and eventually will leave when bleaching every other day for a couple of weeks
clean you place and make sure there is no food on the tables or ground. That will attract bugs. Also if the weather is cold out side, bugs will want to get warm just like you and you will have some uninvited guest. If you want to see bugs in your house, don't turn on the lights. If you can afford it, get some night vision goggles or rent them or if a friend has a set. wait until its dark and quiet, most like after midnight and put on the NVG's and quietly walk around you place and see what is living with you.
Wow! you need to fumigate. there is a product on the market called fogger or something like that, you put one inside house and leave the house for at least 6 hours, it kills all the bugs around.
Standard mature NYC roach, locally called 'waterbugs'.
They hang out in pipe chases and sewage vents.
Find out where it lives the spray its home. Or you can always catch it and let it free. OOOORRRRRRR you can smash it with a shoe. Your choice
You should spray around your house
