This guy used to follow me around, hung out with me, got the door, and treated me sweetly. I could tell that he liked me, but he never asked me out or told me so directly. So after four months of this, I asked him if he liked me. His attentions died down a bit, but we ended being friends. Yet, I haven't heard from him in about 4 months and I miss him. Would that totally throw a guy off track? Is there a chance that he'll get over this?

No, maybe he was shy, and your up frontness just scared him off. Obviously he was being subtle by doing those little sweet things for you, and you probably confronted him in a way that threw him off, so he's backing off. But why did you let the ball drop for 4 months? Take the initiative and give him a call and let him know you miss his friendship. Your absence is probably reinforcing his insecurities.
It sounds more like he was just being friendly and wasn't interested in you in that way. When you asked him if he liked you he probably thought he had been leading you on or gave the wrong impression, so he backed off. Its just a theory though..
hes prolly embarrased hell adventually get ova it though
