ok seriously i know sum of yall r going 2 b rude cuz u think i'm a selfish spoiled brat, but im not and i don't act that way, so serious respectable answers only. its my senior year in high school and i NEED a car, not WANT. i explained my reason and they were very good and my parents understood and everything and were nice about it. well i thought i could go ahead and get one this september, but my dad wants me to wait until spring for one. i dont' think thats fair at all. you can say if i don't like it get a job and buy one myself. first of all no one will hire me. second of all, even if i did save up money for one my parents still wouldn't let me buy one and park it in their drive way. they would basically get mad at me. now thats the part i don't understand. its my money why can't i buy what i want with it? they said they don't want me to have to buy some used car, b/c they break down a lot and you have to spend a lot of money to repair them etc. they said they want to buy me a good new car......which im thankful for, but i just don't see why i can't get it now. i know for a fact they have the money, ok. they could like go out and buy 5 cars right now if they wanted, so thats not the problem. id be willing to pay for the gas and insurance if they got me one now. the thing is they dont want me to pay for any of it until i start college next fall. i would then pay for my own gas when college comes around. im a good driver i've had my license since i was 15. i know sum parents wouldn't buy their child a car at all, i know sum parents would only pay for half of it. i just saying why don't they buy it for me now? i do my chores, and i try hard is school.....wat more do they want?
Update:i didn't explain to u guys cuz ur not my parents!!!!!!!!!! geez.
Update 3:if anybody is rude to me. i will report you.

I didn't have a car in high school, I survived. I took public transportation to and from my job. You'll survive too, I promise!!!
I have several thoughts. One, they do not want you on their insurance because of the liability and want to wait until you are 18. Two, you have too many tickets over the years and they are not ready to part with the money at this time until you drive better. Three, you don't know if they really have the money or are saving to get you what they think you should have.
As for no one will hire you, even cutting lawns is a job. Try putting out some applications, especially since x-mas hiring will start in October/November.
Although you didn't say what the reason is, if it is really important try talking to them again with valid reasons why you need a car now.
They probably figure that if you had a car you would be out at all hours with your friends making destructive decisions and ignoring your school work. The fact that they're waiting till spring is very telling of there intentions, so likely they just want you to do well your senior year.
Parents tend to assume the worst of their children, which isn't anything against you, it's just them be cautious. My parents wouldn't and won't ever pay for my car, insurance, or gas, but they won't let me work more than 20 hours a week because they want my senior year to go smoothly. Parents tend to be a tad overprotective, even when you've given them no reason to be.
The fact that they're willing to pay for it at all is awesome. If you want to attempt to push them into it a bit without being obvious, stay busy. Especially stay busy with school stuff. Like all the dances, join clubs that have a lot of meetings, and that kind of thing. Parents tend to get sick of being a constant chauffeur, especially if it's a lot, and the fact that it's for school would like demonstrate some responsibility on your part, which never hurts any.
Also, I'm a little confused. You stated that you don't want but NEED a car, yet you have no job. I assume you have some way to get to and from school, so what exactly is it that you NEED a car to do? The fact that you claim to NEED it may be a significant part of the reasons your parents don't think you're ready for it.
Don't take it so hard. You say they can afford it and you could pay for gas etc, and they want you to get a newer car rather than some old rust bucket. These aren't the only reasons that they should say yes. Maybe they don't think you (no offence here, honestly) are mature enough to own a car. Maybe they're concerned for your safety? Have there been any incidents at school or in town with cars driven by people your age?
Having your kids grow up and get independent (and getting wheels is about as far as you can go before you leave home for good) is a huge thing for parents to deal with, they have to face the fact that you're not a kid anymore.
you haven't told us why you NEED a car. If there is a valid need, talk to your folks again. If you really need it (if you can't get to school/work/hospital appointments without one), argue your case in a cool calm fashion and they may change their minds. If they don't, will it really kill you to wait til spring?
You are still living at home, and I assume you are under age.
Perhaps if you ask your parents what their reasons are, they would tell you. Maybe not.
You do not seem to have a clear idea of family finances. There could be many reasons...budget, bills coming due, increase in insurance, expected bonuses and dividends, trying not to spend in a fluctuating economy, etc.
They also may want you to show some more maturity before you drive and/or they are so worried about accidents.
You sound very antagonistic towards your parents. Try to see the question from their side.
No, you don't sound spoiled, only thoughtless. They love you unconditionally, but that doesn't mean that they will do what you say right then and there.
why wouldn't you want to wait for a "new" car with all expenses paid instead of a used car. what a minute, how are you going to buy a car if you can't get a job. you just said no one would hire you, right? So sounds like to me you need to wait. Both of my kids got a car from us the night they graduated. They didn't have one before then and they made it just fine. You're not the only one having to wait, believe me.
You didn't really explain why you need a car. If you don't have a job then why do you need one? Also how are you going to pay for gas and insurance if you don't have a job? And why are you saying no one will hire you? That sounds like an excuse.
If you are only in school why do you need a car right now?
some parents cant afford a car!!
dont take what u have for granted, u have both parents, theill get you a car when they want u to have a car, and beleive me that day will come! if you stop complaining, get a job, and ask to borrow theirs enough, theyll probebly surprise you with one oor something, i mean they have to have a reason to not get you one!~
You ever thought maybe they'll surprise you at graduation with a car? Just maybe?
BTW..You better work on that spelling and grammar. For a minute there I thought you were a freshman, not a senior.
my parents are the exact same, i think that cars are less expensive in the spring, and they dont want to pay for one. wait, it's always better.
