I have been having pain in my lower back for the past 3 months. i just managed to go see my orthopedic dr last thursday. he told me that the disk between my L5 and S1 is messed up. the pain meds that he perscribed are not helping me. Any ideas to help relieve the pain without getting anything stronger than what my dr perscribed me? i cant do anything without some kind of pain in my back

I no just what your going through I was in a car accident a couple months back and my docs told me the same thing l4 l5 and S1 slight herniation or bulging.
Basically there hasn't been much I found that has helped at all as far as over the counter stuff like that. I was on hydrocodone for awhile which helped greatly but were also very addictive and are not worth the problem since back pain is a long term problem. My most recent doc has put me on neurontin for nerve pain and ultram er which is synthetic and a lesser form of codeine the combo seems to help and at least get me through the day.
The biggest thing I could suggest is to go see a pain management doc and find out about cortisone injections or any other kind of treatment they could offer. surgery is a a big deal and an intensive process so def try everything u can first.
Also talk to your doc and ask him for a script for pt and referral to a chiropractor both of which can be very helpfully its much better to start now cause the sooner they start therapy the better result you will see
def go see a chiropractor tho it was one of the only things that gave me any kind of relief
best of luck hopefully it gets better
i have arthritis in my lower back because im missing three discs from spinal bifida that never actually came out to the surface, i ice it for 15 then put heat on it for 15. take a jacquizzi, and if u have someone step on yr back until u hear it crack, it releases pressure for a while, i recommend seeing a chiropractor too. theyve helped me a lot
there are sum exercises u can do to strenghten the muscles so it helps with the pain. lay on the floor in the sit-up position. do situps, but when u do them, push ur lower back/pelvic against the floor as ur doing them and dnt release, and put ur hands in front of u like ur trying to reach past ur knees. do ten of them, sitting up with ur back, not ur abs or ur neck, and do them slow, twice a day until u see improvement.(ur back will be sore after u do them but its cuz ur strengthening the muscles) to stretch the lower back, reach for ur toes and hold for atleast 30 seconds. best of luck! : )
I've been having common crampipng pains as good and the surgeon, at the side of my mom, mom in legislation, sisters, and so forth. were telling me the whole thing is high-quality. I'm now not too definite. But ask your surgeon, each and every girl is extraordinary.
