I have a 1998 grand cherokee that still has the original infinity gold speakers, 2 of which are blown. I know very little about car audio but would really like to replace my speakers and improve sound without spending a lot of money. I want to be able to play my music very loudly, but I don't really want to get subs as I don't like heavy bass. What speakers would be best for relatively cheap? Also, my jeep came with a built in amp. Do I need to consider upgrading that to get more volume without blowing speakers? Can I install just a new amp without subs? Help please!

just get new speakers. prices can vary on how much power the speakers can take. if you get a new amp, your speakers will be more crisp and clear. but you may need an aftermarket head unit if you get an aftermarket amp. i'm not positive about that, but go into your local pepboys or mechanic shop that does any electric work. they'll be able to answer that. go to www.crutchfield.com they have anything you could ever want, and are very customer friendly with free, fast shipping. they guarantee that whatever you buy fits your vehicle because you enter your vehicles make, model, year, etc. at the beginning. they're also pretty reasonably priced.
