As the holidays get closer, we are going to be traveling with our infant daughter to my wife's parents' house for Thanksgiving. My wife will be going up a few days before me to help her mother cook. It is about a 6 hour drive. This year we have a new daughter. She hates riding in the back seat alone and screams loudly because of it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get our little angel better at riding in the car?
Thanks

My daughter was 7 months when we went on vacation, which was 20 hours away. What we did was keep her up the day before so she would sleep and then we got 3 toys she only saw in the store then gave them to her one at a time to play with. That held her over for hours. It also depends on the age. sing to her my daughter loves music so we did that too. Also having some one in back and play little games with her and just smiling so she knows she is not alone would be good for her not to get bored. We did all this and she did a great job the way there and home. :) good luck!!
we'e been taking 6 hour rides back and fourth with our daughter since she was 6 weeks old. she also hates the car and cries every time the car is stopped. We found that a) she falls asleep once we hit the highways for more than 15 minutes b.) sleeps most of the way anyway.
If she's awake, give her toys and a mirror to look at. also if you don't have one already, get a little clip for her binkie so it's easy to reach back and find it (if she uses one). play soothing music in the car. and stop often if shes awake. since kayla sleeps we only have to stop until she wakes up (about 4-5 hours into the trip) to feed, change and play with her for a little. let her stretch out. if you baby is awake and upset stop often... maybe even once an hour if you need to.
Frequent stops. Get out, calm her down, get her out of the car seat. A mirror in the back. Brand new toys that may peak her interest. Is there anyone who could ride there with them and sit in the back? Personally I can hardly drive when my baby cries in the carseat, I have to pull over and calm him down.
I bought the baby Einstein cd and it was the best thing i ever did a few songs on it ALWAYS get his attention and calm him down, it may not work the whole ride but im sure a few moments of quiet will be appreciated!
A mirror so she can check herself out maybe
Infants like to look at themselves in mirrors.
