i want to download a site called "my heritage" in order to build a family tree. its free and this site has all kind of interesting features. i'm concerned about privacy. your info is stored online with the site somewhere. is it okay to put in your family info or could that info be made public? and does anyone know any other good online geneology sites that are free where i can build my tree and have family members add to it?

Under their terms this is what it says, so once your information is uploaded it belongs to them to do whatever they want with it, they may 'do' nothing, however that is the same as any other website. The only way to keep your information and research YOURs is to download a free FH database or buy one for your own computer and own use.

Not intentionally, but if it isn't there, it can't be hacked. I use Roots Magic, which runs on my machine. If people want to add to it I ask them for their sources, and I enter it in my format. As soon as multiple people start "adding" to your data, you'll have great Uncle Hezekiah being a colonel in the 2nd Oklahoma Paratroops during the Civil War, and these place names:
Bedford Co., Virginia
