Do Japanese schools have dances over the course of the year? Like, do they have prom and stuff, or casual dances?
Update:Would htey have a formal dance during hte school year, like when guys would ask girls? And could a coach take his team and a date for every team member out to a fancy restraunt after a huge game, or would this not be respectful or whatever?

I've never heard of a Japanese school having a prom-style dance. They typically divide into teams and do a choreographed dance performance at the annual Sports Day (held in the fall.) It's called an "Attraction"- you can check out the Japanese movie Waterboys to get an idea what types of things they do. They can be really fun- they guys will get up there and shake it and everything.
It would be typical for sports teams to go out to eat as a group, or to have a prearranged end of year celebration at a restaurant.
Well, they don't do dances or prom or anything of the sort. Some coaches will take his/her team for a celebration dinner. The other day I was eating out with a friend and about 20 young girls wearing basketball jerseys came in and sat near us with their coach. I've seen that a few times. Most students (arournd 95% if not all) take part in after school activities. Most schools make this mandatory. There sports teams are generally very good. They don't pep rallies or dances but they do practice hard and have great teams.
According to google translate: 2????? =two Gakk? no odori =Ni Gakk? no odori This is typically a short lived translation.....as it's google translate it would no longer be correct and my eastern isn't in tip best form.
I was really impressed while I lived in Canada for a grade 10 school year. What I was impressed for was school's free air(free atmosphere) that students would hold dance parties quite often for themselves and the students are quite independent and the school would not mind it at all. Japanese high schools are kind of rigid, and expects students to accord with the school rules strictly, kinda boring. Thus, the high school students here are in the same school uniforms and look like the same to each other. But sports teams and music clubs and many kinds of groups or clubs exist at high schools and middle schools and would be the good chance for students to make something unforgettable and precious for the rest of their lives.
no, they have war dances
