He is "Werth" about the same amount of money that Jason Bay received, and Jason Bay isn't even worth that much. However, since Werth hired Scott Boras as his agent, he is pretty much guaranteed to receive a Matt Holliday type deal. Boras always negotiates massive contracts for his players, so it won't surprise me if he gets a 6 or 7 seven deal north of $125M.
I could see him possibly going to the Tigers, as Magglio Ordonez is 35 and his contract ran out at the end of the 2010 season.
Speaking as a Phillies fan, he is not worth that much. But at the same time, neither is Matt Holliday, and Werth is just as good a player as Holliday, if not better. And he definetely deserves at the least the 4 yr, 66 million deal that Jason Bay received bc he's definetely better than that bum.
The worst part about this whole Jayson Werth negotiation is he hired Scott Boras as an agent
Not many teams can really afford Werth, Yankees aren't interested supposively, I'm hoping he returns to the Phillies still, they definetely have money to throw around considering they sell out every game, but its a stiff price for any player.
I am a Matt Holliday fan and I like him better than Werth but even I have to admit that the Cards bid against themselves during negotiations. I doubt Philly will make the same mistake but they did give Howard that fat contract. So Philly may have set the bar for the Cards with the Howard deal for Pujols and vice versa (Cards set bar for Werth negotiations ie Holliday).
I wouldn't pay him a penny over 4 years 60 million. He's an overrated player coming out of his prime. He can barely manage strong numbers in a strong lineup playing in a bandbox. Outside of Philly he's a .265 20 75 hitter w/ 10 steals and slowing. 15 million is a GIFT for him.
i like Jayson Werth he's a large participant and a large guy. however the Nationals shouldn't assume him to be the entire team. i'm a phillies fan and from my attitude you men have been given fortunate with him ;)
No hes not. For I guy whose numbers dropped in HR by 9 and whose numbers dropped in RBIs by more than 10 hes definately not worth it. 27 hr and 85 RBIs isnt worth 120 million and if thts what he wants then the Phillies won't resign him, I think the Angels would though.
he isn't Werth that much. unfortunately the Yankees can afford that. I am hoping he will settle for something lower with Philadelphia or else they are going to have to start Dominic Brown, and i dont know if he can be a regular starter yet.
Not even close. Guys are asking ridiculous amounts of money these days. Why can't the league have more guys like Ryan Braun or Joe Mauer? Guys who aren't all about the money.
more like 90million for 7 years... if he would hit in the 4 spot, he would easily have 100 RBIs and he's already proven he can bust 25+ and keep a fair BA
Name any player who IS worth that money. No one, really. Okay, I know you mean compared to other players who earn tons, but even then, 120M for 7 years is pretty high.
